When the New Year rolls around so do new opportunities. The New Year feels like a blank slate, a chance to start over and it certainly is. For some of us, resolutions serve as minimal motivation and therefore, we don’t both to make them. For others, resolutions help us define our goals. Some resolutions are health-based like quitting smoking and running more, and others are for our safety like to quit texting and driving and other people set career or education goals for the New Year.
Regardless of your New Year resolutions, there is always room for one more promise to yourself – and your hair. Day in and day out we wair the same tired hairstyles, damage our hair with the same routine and products and we never think about changing it for the better but this year, make sure you make a commitment to your hair.
1. In With the New, Out With the Old
Everybody has styling products, hairbrushes, accessories and tools that have been cluttering up their vanity or sink, drawers and counter space. The New Year is the perfect excuse for some serious cleaning. Throw away the products with expired dates, give away or throw away products and accessories that you don’t use and if your tools are old, toss them out. This year, ask for samples of products before you spend your cash on them and let them go to waste.
2. I Will Make Maintenance a Priority
In the day-to-day hustle, our hair quickly falls down on the priority list. We’re not suggesting it should be your top priority but make it one. Commit yourself to your 6-week trims, your color touch-ups, deep conditioning treatments and hair masks. You will notice the difference and so will everybody else, and hair compliments always feel pretty good!
3. I Will Try New Hairstyles and Accessories
We browse the web and magazines for new hairstyles but then the time comes to actually style our hair and we stick with a straight down hairstyle or our go-to side-swept ponytail. These hairstyles probably look great on you and that’s why you stick with them but this year, commit yourself to trying new hairstyles and accessories. Don’t worry about things like ‘work appropriate’ or ‘age appropriate’. Try a sparkly headband at the office or bejeweled bobby pins for brunch. Here are a few of our favorite easy hairstyles to try:
4. I’ll Beat My Flaws and Love My Hair
This is the year that you stop fighting your natural hair and start loving your hair. Rather than hating your voluminous curls, learn how to mask the flaws and embrace your texture. If you have flat hair, learn how to properly tease your hair and get that volume those curly-haired girls complain about so much. There is a solution to every problem; some times it just takes some practice and product to get the hairstyle that works for you.
5. I Will Be Brave and Bold
Have you been dreaming about a long bob? Or perhaps a curly hairstyle or going red? This is the year that you stop hesitating over ‘should I or shouldn’t I’ and go for it. All of your hair decisions should be made on sound research. There are plenty of articles here that can help you navigate the best cut or color for your New Year new look and you should consult your stylist.
