Curly hair is absolutely gorgeous. You probably hear something like ‘I wish I had your curls’ all the time. But you know all too well that curly hair comes with its frizz, kinks, unruly locks, tangles and more. So how can you tame those crazy curls? Here are a few practical tips:
Keep it Healthy
Curly hair goes is often put through a lot with styling products and heating. Regardless if you do this all the time or never, it’s important that your hair is healthy. Use a deep-conditioning treatment every two weeks. You can also try DIY hot oil treatments to feed the scalp and hair.
Comb your Curls in the Shower
A curly hairs worst nightmare is a brush but there is a compromise. Take a comb into the shower whenever you will be conditioning your hair. Lather your hair in conditioner, massage it through your scalp and then comb from your ends up to your roots and leave the conditioner in for a few minutes before rinsing.
The Right Cut for Your Curls
Curls come in a lot of shapes and sizes. Fine spiral curls should be kept long while loose waves work great at shoulder length cut. Talk to your stylist about the right cut for your hair type and face shape.
Skip the Shampoo
You don’t have to shampoo everyday or even as often as you use conditioner. For curly hair you can shampoo two or three times a week tops. Shampoo tends to strip hair of oils, which means dry and frizzy hair. After you do shampoo and conditioner, add a small amount of leave-in conditioner or oil for that extra moisture.
Protect Your Curls
Curly hair actually has a lot of versatility because it can be worn in flawless curls or in waves or straight. However, a lot of people skip the heat-protection products before blow drying, curling or using a flat iron. Always apply protector before bringing heat near your curls.
