50 is an exciting time in a women’s life. It’s a turning point, a time to reflect on what they’ve done and determine what they want to do. Sometimes turning Fifty is the year for a big change and that might me a new haircut to complete the transition. When you’re 50, you probably won’t be as daring as you were when you dyed your hair pink and got cornrows but, you might be ready for something a little more bold than that shoulder-length cut you’ve been holding onto for the past 15 years. You might even be ready for gray hair. Here are our favorite haircuts for women in their 50s.
Long Sassy and Sexy Pixie
Sometimes, going shorter is the best choice for women in their 50’s. One way that you can go shorter but keep the sexy look is with a longer, layered pixie. With feathered edges you can create a contemporary look that covers your forehead (remember, bangs not Botox) and frames your face beautifully. It will hide any wrinkles you may be worried about and draw attention to your cheekbones, chin and eyes.

A-Line Straight Bob
As you age, your hair tends to grow a little thinner, and this cut is perfect for that but it also works for a medium texture. Ask your stylist to cut a blunt end with a razor to give it that softer line. You could go an inch longer than your chin if you don’t want it to look too “matronly” or you can add some soft side-swept bangs for a beautiful shorter cut.

Wavy Long Bob
If you have that shoulder length cut, you might not really need to change the length much at all. Take an inch or two off and then change the texture instead. A long textured bob with loose waves can really spice up that old school medium-length cut. Throw in some layers to add some volume and you’ll have a gorgeous head of hair. Be careful if you have fine hair, too many layers could make your hair look stringy. Also, adding a side-part with this hairstyle can hide a thinning hairline.

Add Blunt Bangs
Now that you’re 50, you probably don’t have to worry about late nights out on the town (not as frequently anyway), early mornings with young kids and taking care of everything. You might have a little more time to yourself now so you can worry about things like blunt bangs a little more. Although blunt bangs are maintenance, they are chic and youthful. They hide wrinkles, draw attention to your nose and eyes and they have an oh-so-vogue look about them. Pair them with a blunt cut or a layered lob.

Long Face Framing Layers with long Hair
You certainly don’t have to have short hair once you’ve reached a certain age. Rock your longer hair if that’s what you want. But by adding long face framing layers you can disguise a fading jawline that happens with aging. It also adds volume and movement to your style.
