Some Things to Consider
It’s important that you consider certain aspects to ensure that you get the right trimmer for your needs. The following section contains key factors that play a role in delivering a quality product.
Size and Weight
The size and weight of your manscaping trimmer is crucial in giving you a safe and comfortable trim. A unit that is too heavy and cumbersome will be difficult to reach certain areas.
Manscaping is a lot different compared to shaving your face or underarms. It can be tough trying to get every nook and cranny. Choosing a compact yet versatile model will give you the freedom you need to successfully complete the task at hand.
Lightweight is Good
The same is true for the weight factor. You’re better off selecting a trimmer that is lightweight. It will be easier to wield, allowing you to more comfortably trim your groin.
Heavy trimmers tend to be unbalanced and hard to manage. Manscaping takes precision and concentration to ensure that you don’t accidentally nick yourself.
Too Light is Bad
Have you ever bought a cheap electronic gadget? You likely noticed that it was really lightweight and flimsy. This is because the same attention to detail in premium brands was bypassed in order to cut costs and save money.
It’s important that your trimmer is light. You just want to make sure that quality materials were used in their manufacturing. Take the Clean cut ES412, for example. It is a very lightweight unit, but it’s made out of stainless steel. This is the type of balance you should consider when researching different models.
Corded or Battery Powered
You most certainly want your trimmer to be cordless. It’s nice to have a corded backup in a pinch in case you run out of battery life in the middle of a trim. But you should be using the cordless mode all other times.
The reason for this is simple. Using a trimmer that’s tethered to the wall will interfere with your performance. The cord also causes the unit to become unbalanced. This can result in you unnecessarily nicking or cutting yourself.
It is also important to consider the battery life of the trimmer. No one likes it when their device dies while trimming. It will have less power and likely end up pulling hairs for a painful situation.
Most premium models boast quick charge times. You should be back up and running in no time in the event that your battery dies on you.
Try to invest in a trimmer that has at least 30 minutes of run-time per charge. We found that this is usually plenty of time to get everything satisfactorily trimmed.
You don’t want a unit that’s going to rush this delicate procedure. Remember, the more time you have to take, the better.
Those who have been manscaping for a while know that it isn’t the cleanest of jobs. Truthfully, it is quite messy. You want to ensure that your potential trimmer is capable of being used in the shower.
This goes a long way in reducing cleanup time and maintenance. A waterproof model is a hassle-free way to ensure your manscaping is an enjoyable endeavor.
Doing the task in the shower is not just cleaner, it’s often much more comfortable. You’ll have the freedom to use shaving creams or lotions, giving you a much smoother finish when you’re done.
If you decide to go with a model that isn’t waterproof, try using baby powder in place of shaving cream. You’ll find it to add a great deal of comfort to the process. It’s also a good idea to use after trimming in the shower, for those who buy waterproof models.
It helps to reduce itching, chafing, and general discomfort. There are also specialty ointments available that serve the same purpose if you don’t like the smell of baby powder.
Premium trimmers will most likely have high-quality blades. It’s important to look for those with stainless steel, as they prevent rusting and corrosion.
Good blades mean a more comfortable trim for you. Subpar blades can cause all kinds of irritation, so it’s best to avoid them. Quality blades include chromium, surgical, and stainless steel.
One of the big bonuses of manscaping trimmers is that there isn’t a lot of maintenance involved. That doesn’t mean that you can just shave yourself and forget about it. Here, we’ll look at a few things you want to keep an eye on to ensure your trimmer lives a long life.
Clean the Blades
Anytime you trim your groin area, your trimmer is coming in contact with dirt, oils, and bacteria. Letting your blades accumulate this stuff without cleaning them is a recipe for disaster.
The longer you allow this to happen, the more at risk you are for infection. This is especially true if you let them collect filth and then cut yourself. You’re letting all that build-up get directly into your bloodstream.
It should go without saying at this point, but clean your blades and clean them often. You don’t have to get fancy about it. Simply run them under warm water and dry them. This is another benefit of choosing a waterproof trimmer.
While you’re in the shower, you can simply splash your trimmer under the showerhead and dry it off when you’re finished. It’s a great way to save time and effort.
You might want to consider getting a unit that has a detachable head if it isn’t waterproof. This will reduce the chances of accidentally ruining the delicate internal components of the trimmer.
If you’re really serious about reducing build-up, you might want to invest in some spray. This works to both cool the blades and disinfect them. You don’t want to accidentally burn yourself when manscaping. This is especially useful to those who choose trimmers that aren’t waterproof.
Another good purpose of trimmer spray is that it helps reduce skin irritation. If you have sensitive skin, this can be a huge benefit to you.
You will effectively eliminate the chance of infection while keeping your skin silky-smooth and fresh.
This really depends on the kind of trimming you plan on doing down there. Those of you who wish to get creative and add some flair to your hair will want to consider the attachments, if any are included.
The more stylish you want your manscaping to be, the more attachments you’ll want available to you. This will allow you to get the perfect trim every time.
Some models make it easy to switch between attachments and a close shave. Having this option lets you get a much more detailed trim.
You might decide to go with a model that doesn’t include different guard lengths. That doesn’t mean you’re out of options, however. You’ll find that some units have a built-in adjustment. You’ll be limited on lengths, but at least you’ll have a choice of how you trim or shave your sensitive area.
Oil the Blades
The great thing about many manscaping trimmers is that you don’t have to oil them like you do with traditional clippers. As we discussed earlier, you can simply run them under water or apply a specialty spray. Plus, if you’re using lotions or shaving cream, this will help to keep the blades working smoothly and effectively. It’s also a great way to cut down on pulling.
Some of the better models have self-sharpening blades. These work to keep your new trimmer performing just as well as the day you bought it. This is a nice addition that reduces the overall maintenance required to keep your trimmer functioning properly.
We also mentioned that many manufacturers use surgical or stainless steel blades. You can count on these to not rust or dull, ensuring that you get a great trim with each use.

Philips Norelco topped our list of entries with one of the best manscaping trimmers around. It impressed us with its versatility and ergonomic design. We found it to be very easy to wield, giving us a precise and even trim with each use.
It sports a nice, grippy handle that’s easy to control. It has a lightweight yet solid construction that makes it easy to get to those hard-to-reach nooks and crannies. The Bodygroom left us with a close, comfortable trim. There wasn’t any skin irritation afterward, either.
As with most models, you want to pay careful attention when manscaping. Our first use resulted in a couple of nicks here and there. However, after we became familiar with the Bodygroom, trimming was quick and effortless.
We’re big fans of the Bodygroom’s battery life. You can expect to get a solid hour and a half of use with each charge. Recharging is equally efficient. It takes just around an hour to fully complete the process.
We love that this unit is waterproof, too. It’s safe to take in the shower for hassle-free trimming. This allows you to experiment with different lotions and shaving creams until you find a brand that suits you best.
You don’t get any attachments with the Bodygroom. It does, however, come with a built-in adjustable head. It’s easy to get the perfect trim thanks to this clever design. There’s less to keep track of, too. There’s so much to like here, making this trimmer a home run.

Some guys don’t want to mess with a bunch of different blade attachments when manscaping. It can admittedly be rather tedious switching lengths and trying to evenly trim yourself.
This is where Cleancut’s ES412 comes in handy. It’s a single-length trimmer that’s akin to an electric shaver. This makes manscaping quick and effortless. You don’t have to make any adjustments to get a nice trim.
It sports a compact design that’s comfortable to hold. This makes it easy to get those hard-to-reach angles. The ES412 uses an attractive yet durable stainless steel body. You’re getting a device that is sure to withstand lots of use.
It’s important to note that this unit does not shave you smoothly. It does, however, trim very close to your skin. We like that it leaves you feeling fresh and clean. You don’t have to worry about painful cuts or nicks, either. The ES412 works in a way that provides you with safe and effective trimming.
This model runs on a single C battery. You’re the one who has to provide this, though. Cleancut does not include one with your purchase.

You can always count on Gillette to make an appearance when it comes to male grooming. The Fusion ProGlide Styler is a fine addition to their long line of products.
We appreciate everything Gillette includes in this incredible kit. You’ll find that it gives you just what you need for an even trim. It comes with 3 different attachments and 2 heads that help you get the perfect shave.
You use the trimmer to get the length you want. You then switch over to the Fusion Razor to clean things up for a silky-smooth finish.
The ProGlide Styler is one of the more versatile units we tested. You can safely use it in the shower for mess-free trimming. It’s a breeze to handle, too, making it easy to get those difficult areas. Its lightweight construction lends to making manscaping an effortless affair.
We like that there are no chargers or docks to mess with. You simply pop in one AA battery to power the unit. Even better is the fact that you get a solid month of use per battery. There’s a lot of value to be had in this package.
Perhaps the biggest bonus is that it’s so affordable. Gillette gives you a lot for very little. It’s no wonder that this is one of the best-selling manscaping trimmers.

Remington is quite popular among men as a respectable manufacturer of grooming tools and accessories. The PG525, or Head-to-Toe trimmer, is a commendable effort that delivers precision manscaping.
You get a lot to work with in this kit. Remington packs in a total of 9 attachments for exceptional versatility. Each one serves a purpose, from trimming your unsightly ear and nose hair, to detailing your groin area.
The surgical steel blades continually sharpen themselves while you trim. This is a huge plus that works to lessen the PG525’s overall maintenance.
You can expect to get an impressive 70 minutes of total run-time on a single charge. This, however, is where the main issue with this trimmer lies. We recharged the PG525 several times without a hitch. But after doing this repeatedly, we noticed a drop in battery life when each subsequent use.
Upon opening the trimmer, we found that it’s powered by a single rechargeable AA battery. Yes, this is a fairly easy fix. But it’s not something you should have to deal with. We wish the PG525’s built-in battery had better longevity.
This is an excellent trimmer for travel. It’s small, lightweight, and very easy to use. It’s just a shame to see a subpar battery negatively affect what is an otherwise solid performer.
Comes with: Self-sharpening action, 9 guard attachments, surgical steel blades
Product Volume: 8 ounces
Warranty: 2-year warranty
Excellent travel companion
Sharp, durable blades
Can’t be used in the shower
Potential issues with battery life

Manscaped’s Lawn Mower 3.0 is the direct update of the Lawn Mower 2.0. There have been many improvements for the better. The 3.0 trims more precisely while reducing the occurrences of nicks and cuts.
We’re big fans of the ergonomics and versatility of this model. It’s easier to wield and does a fine job of trimming. You can safely do your manscaping in the shower, too. It is completely waterproof and won’t rust, either.
Charging the Lawn Mower 3.0 is relatively quick, as well. It takes about 90 minutes to fully top off the battery. Afterwards, you can expect to get equal run-time. We found this to be plenty enough to successfully trim where we needed.
A big plus is the USB charging dock. It’s easy to use and quite convenient. The dock’s charging port is proprietary, but the other end is standard USB. You can simply sock this into most traditional charging cubes that plug into an outlet.
It’s important to use caution while you’re trimming. The Lawn Mower 3.0 is relatively safe to use, but it is possible to accidentally cut yourself if you’re not paying close attention.
We like that Manscaped kept the blades the same size. This means they are interchangeable with the previous Lawn Mower 2.0 variant. So don’t pitch your old trimmer if you’re upgrading to the 3.0. Those extra blades might come in handy!
Comes with: QuietStroke technology, USB charging dock
Motor: 7,000-RPM motor
Safe to use in the shower
Fast recharge time
