Have you found yourself in a hair rut? Welcome to the club! We all find ourselves bored with our hair from time to time but that doesn’t mean you have to commit to the maintenance of blunt bangs or blonde highlights. You don’t have to be monogamous with a hairstyle. You can temporarily change its color, cut and style and you don’t have to commit. Here are 10 non-committal ways to change your hair.
1. Faux Bob
You don’t have to chop off your long locks to get that adorable lob that you’ve seen everywhere. There are a few techniques for this look. One of the simplest ways is to use an elastic band placed a quarter up from the ends of length, twist your hair underneath and pin it.
2. Dip-Dye Your Hair with Kool-Aid
Kool-Aid doesn’t dye just your tongue – it dyes your hair too! If you’re looking for a semi-permanent color for a summer event or just for fun, you can mix Kool-Aid and conditioner and dye your lighter strands for a few washes. Remember that this works best on blonde hair.
3. Fake Layers
This simple change can really give you the new look that you need! Simply use your hand to comb all of your hair over to one side. Since half of your hair is lying across your head they will look shorter. The dramatic side part will give you a pretty dramatic new look too. Win win!
4. Fake Bangs
There are several ways that you can recreate the look of bangs without actually making the commitment to weekly trims and daily styling. If you have long hair you can pull your hair up into a ponytail and wrap around the ponytail so that it falls on the forehead to create the temporary illusion of bangs. You can also do this with a bun. Alternatively, you can buy clip-in bangs. Find the tutorial here!
5. Get a Temporary Gloss Color
Glosses give you a vibrant shine and even a new hair color, but it’s completely non committal and temporary. A gloss only lasts a few weeks because it stains the hair without penetrating the follicle and it’s much cheaper than a hair dye.
6. Try the Wet Look
The easiest non-committal way to get burst through hair boredom is to simply try a new look. If you’re going to try the wet look, use a combination of oil and gel. Simply put a more-than-necessary oil on at first to make the hair appear wet (and to prevent the gel from making your hair too stiff) and then apply gel to make sure the hair stays in place throughout the day.
7. Try Clip-Ins
Hair extensions can be a big commitment but if you want fuller or longer hair, they might seem like the only option. But clip-ins are actually a very viable option to get that extra hair you’ve been wishing for. They can give you highlights, make your hair longer, give you bangs, add layers and more.
